Three Kings Day Celebration

Every year, Latinas Unidas, in collaboration with other entities of the Rochester community such as the City of Rochester, the Girl Scouts and North Clinton Avenue Business Association, organizes a children's event to celebrate the 3 Kings Day (January 6).

Customarily, we first have a parranda (sing-along), when we sing villancicos (traditional Christmas songs in Spanish). The Girl Scouts organize an arts and craft activity, and after the reading of the Three King story, the 3 Kings arrive and give candy and a gift to the children. We then serve dinner featuring typical Hispanic dishes.

We have been fortunate to count with community leaders and personalities that cheerfuly agree to participate as the Kings, such as Rochester Mayor Bill Johnson; Rochester Mayor Robert Duffy; WOKR TV Weather Reporter, Richard Mc Cullogh; WHAM TV 13 Weather Reporter Glenn Johnson; Rochester Fire Chief Floyd A. Madison; the city's commissioner of community development, Julio Vazquez; Sgt. Carlos Garcia of the Rochester Police Department; Sen. Joseph Robach, R-Greece; Albert Algarin, president of North Clinton Avenue Business Association.
