Presentation Speech for Dr. Tina Pereda, Career Achievement Award.

Dr. Pereda has been working for Nazareth College and has over thirty-three years of experience in the educational profession. In 1973, Dr. Pereda received her PH.D in 20 th Century Spanish Literature from the University of Colorado. Dr. Pereda began her career as a teaching associate in Spanish at the University of Denver, CO. She then moved to Rochester, New York and became a Spanish Professor at Nazareth College of Rochester.

Dr. Pereda has published over 20 articles and books on Hispanic Literature and Hispanic Culture. She has also conducted hundreds of presentations on the Hispanic Culture and has authored several papers locally, regionally and on a national level. She stresses the importance of the contributions of Hispanic Women. Her leadership has made a significant impact on the lives of Hispanic Women in the community through her active involvement in Hispanic organizations where women are involved.

Dr. Pereda s stresses academic growth for all of her students. She has gained the respect of her colleagues, associates and all who come in contact with her.

In 2000, Dr. Pereda was the first recipient of the Endowed Beston Chair for International Studies. In 1998, she received the Research and Scholarship Award and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Award.

Dr. Pereda is the Rochester Hispanic Business Association liaison between the community and Nazareth College. She has also served as a board member for the Ibero-American Action League for more than 10 years.

Dr. Pereda exemplifies the leadership qualities and characteristics that are needed for women of distinction.
